Han is a contemporary fashion label
rooted in the depth of Han cultural heritage. I translate traditional Chinese symbolism into a rigorous, minimalist design language, reimagining ancient motifs for a discerning global audience.
This zodiac visual system serves as a modern
reinterpretation of traditional Chinese Shadow
Puppetry. By stripping away redundant colors
and ornate decorations, the design isolates
the most recognizable silhouette profiles
of the twelve animals. Through anetwork of
interweaving lines—reminiscent of the jointed
construction found in shadow puppets—it
establishes a rigorous modular graphic logic.
This approach bridges the gap between
ancient folk art and a systematic, contemporary
visual identity.
Inspired by the silhouette of the ancient Chinese command tablet—a historic symbol of authority and identity—this hang tag transcends traditional packaging through a ritualistic interaction.
The core of the design lies in the act of unveiling: as the user peels away the back label, a hidden zodiac totem is revealed. Each icon is strictly synchronized with the specific year of production, stripping away the decorative excess of folklore to reframe the zodiac through a modern, modular visual language. This concealed narrative transforms the hang tag from a disposable artifact into a collectible "time footnote," embedding the brand’s memory within a restrained, contemporary form.
